National Center for Nanoscience and technology (NCNST)


The National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST) of China is a leading Chinese independent institute and provide a national platform in nanoscience and nanotechnology. NCNST is co-founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Ministry of Education.

The CAS key Laboratory for Biological Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety (Abbr China Nanosafety Lab) at the NCNST is one of the few specific laboratories in the world, which focuses on the environmental health and safety (EHS) of engineered nanomaterials. Currently, China Nanosafety Lab is carrying out the characterization of NPs, assays and methodology of nanotoxicology for human exposure, behaviour of NPs in environmental and biological systems, toxicological and safety assessment of NPs, and establishment of EHS Database. NCNST is leading several Chinese 973 Programs (National Basic Research Program supported by MOST). Main tasks: NCNST will contribute to WP6 and WP9, focusing on assessment exposure in the plants for ENMs in WP6 exposure and health effect for animals and mammalian cells and detection in WP9. a) will investigate the relationship between the structural features of engineered nanomaterials (ENM) and their toxicological effects with mouse and cell models typical of the Brain-Blood Barrier and b) will identify which effects are correlated with alterations of respiratory and cardio-vascular systems in exposed animals.
